This is my “How To” make for the first Make Cycle. I describe how to become a member of the community at my teaching site, the home of the Vikings. I used Hackpad to create the page (hat tip to Terry Elliot for sharing Hackpad).

How to Host a Google Hangout on Air for Distance Learners
I created this Google Site and curated this page as a participant in ILEAD USA 2013 (Innovative Libraries Explore Apply and Discover 2013) Team Oasis Outreach Activities Streaming Innovative Services. My role was to represent Distance Learners in Academic Libraries and explore three innovative services: Virtual Office Hours, LIve Screenshare Tutoring, and Hangouts with Subject Experts to discuss Digital Literacy in the Disciplines. I currently teach Library Technical Assistants online and have a strong interest in curating Open Educational Resources for Open Textbooks. After discovering Inkling Habit for the Android platform and Book.Ry Tools for IOS, I came away thinking that librarian collaboration on eTextbook projects within Pre-K – 16 disciplines is the ultimate embedded librarianship experience.
I have shared this future collaborative vision as expressed by the Denver Public Library Commission under Jamie LaRue’s library
Gary Golden, Futurist Quote: While futurists don’t ‘predict’ the future, Golden did offer this insight: “In twenty years, it is likely, in my…vision of the world that libraries and museums, non-school institutions, will grant more certifications of work skills than all schools combined — your technical schools, community colleges, high schools, graduate schools…. Our civic institutions will train, vet, and certify skill sets in volumes that will dwarf those that are currently granted in our schools today. That is the provocation to think about. What if that were true? That’s a very
different future.” http://denverlibrary.org/files/meeting_materials062112.pdf
My OASIS STAFF SANDBOX Google Site was created as a staff training sandbox for tech-savvy staff and newbies to explore digital and social media tools. My current interest is curating content for Professional Learning Communities focused on staff development using open educational resources such as Google+ Apps for Education.
