My 10-Book Memoir

Use Mozilla’s Webmaker remix tool Thimble to create your own version of a 10-Book Memoir web page. Gather the last 10 books you read (or games you played or tags from flowers you planted) or the last 10 things you hacked or made. Take a picture and share it online so you can grab its URL (or web address). Then visit the 10-Book Memoir template at https://thimble.webmaker.org/p/lazp/. Change the picture and quotes, as well as anything else about the page you want to mess around with while you’re there. Hit publish to see your new version of the page without… Read more »

Making the Web 3D

Mozilla has built an interesting tool into the Firefox browser that allows you to make a three dimensional view of a website, where links and media “pop up” off the website image. This view provides a sense of the architecture of a website. Here’s how you do it: Use the latest version of Firefox Go to a webpage you want to examine in 3D Right click with your mouse Choose “inspect element” In bottom right corner, there will be an icon (a 3D box) for the three dimensional view Click and explore

Search if, of course, an amazingly powerful tool that transforms how we access and find information. Creating your own custom search engine gives you a bit more control — adding a filter to the search crawlers. You can create your own Google Search Engine by going to https://www.google.com/cse/ If you are logged into your Google Account, you can create your own search engine by adding the sites that you want to search. Here, for example, is a Search Engine of only related CLMOOC sites: http://goo.gl/Cl9qYw Give it a try. Make an engine and go searching. The Webmaker tool creates an “overlay” of the hacked site (the original site does not get affected) and XRay Goggles offers the option to publish the hack to the Web, which can then be remixed by others. If you’ve… Read more »
