A Template for “The Alphabetical Me”

For my introduction in Make Cycle 1/2016, I used an alphabet image I created in Powerpoint presentation to create a “thinglink” at thinglink.com. Making the alphabet part took a little time, so I thought it was worth saving. I can imagine using it in a variety of ways: having students use it to create a digital reading log of books they’ve read or even as a springboard for their own introductions in class. I am posting two versions of the image for anyone who might be interested in using them. The first, “The Alphabetical Me” Pattern, is a Google Slide with… Read more »

Unmake an Introduction – 2015 Make Cycle #1

What’s the first thing you usually do when you enter a room of folks with some familiar and unfamiliar faces—you introduce yourself, right? So let’s unravel “the introduction” to dive into the Connected Learning principle of equity. The theme this week is Unmaking Introductions. Let’s consider the ways we name, present, and represent ourselves and the boundaries or memberships those introductions create. How do we name ourselves in different contexts—personally? professionally? online? What happens when those contexts converge? How might we take apart our introductions to answer some of these questions? What will happen when we put them back together… Read more »

Make Introduction: How To Be Me Recipe

A recipe is one form of How To Guide which can easily be turned into an introduction. I used Google Presentation to build an interactive “Preparation” section to link to other slides and back. Here’s how I made it: http://whatelse.edublogs.org/2014/06/13/clmooc-how-to-be-me-guide/ Here’s the presentation: http://goo.gl/aa7JVB

Make an Animated You – Cycle 1 (2013) Featured Make

Using an app called Animation Desk (but other animation tools will work), create an animated visual of yourself as part of an introductory activity. Think about how you might not just represent yourself, but also, how you will represent elements of your life or interests or personality in a visual way. How will the movement of your animation relate to the story you are trying to tell?

My 10-Book Memoir

Use Mozilla’s Webmaker remix tool Thimble to create your own version of a 10-Book Memoir web page. Gather the last 10 books you read (or games you played or tags from flowers you planted) or the last 10 things you hacked or made. Take a picture and share it online so you can grab its URL (or web address). Then visit the 10-Book Memoir template at https://thimble.webmaker.org/p/lazp/. Change the picture and quotes, as well as anything else about the page you want to mess around with while you’re there. Hit publish to see your new version of the page without… Read more »

Make your Avatar as an introduction in #clmooc

Everyone now has an opportunity to make an avatar. Making an avatar is a fun way of introduction for new students and teachers. And for participants in a Mooc. I would like you all to make an avatar (please do a search on Internet to learn more about avatars and how to make them) You could paint, use textile or any material (and make a photo of it), or use a computer program. You are encouraged to support and to help each other. It will help us if you could write a text on the process of making and /… Read more »

Create a #CLMOOC Profile (Thimble version)

Okay – here goes another coding “make-with-me” for the end of Make Cycle 1. Thimble is kind of wonky right now as it updates, so bear with me. You can preview this project – a #CLMOOC Profile – here: https://googledrive.com/host/0BxZk3rymm2ylbEpYTUVZVGJBaVU/profile.htm You can find the code for it, along with instructions on how to change the code, here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pvyMJlbikLBZgGGv4L_Ki_blDhM7R6OfhZxsU2a-iog/edit?usp=sharing If you want to mess with the code now, you can. You can save your work and paste it into Thimble when Thimble is ready. I will put the template into Thimble ASAP. You are a coder and you are okay 😉
